AUIS is partnering with Stanford Law School (SLS) and the SLS Rule of Law Program to develop and implement a legal education project known as the Iraq Legal Education Initiative. In a span of five years, AUIS and SLS aim to develop and provide new legal textbooks for Iraqi law schools, as well as develop AUIS’s own legal studies program, which can be a model for other institutions across Iraq. SLS’s Rule of Law program is at the cutting edge of international legal education reform efforts and offers a proven model that is directly applicable to Iraq. Stanford’s Afghanistan Legal Education Project has, over the past five years (2007-2012), grown from a single introductory law course into a full five-year LL.B./B.A. degree-granting program. Likewise, AUIS is uniquely positioned to fill this void in Iraq, especially in its Kurdistan Region.
