Associate Professor of Pathology/Hematology, (MHS) Department Chair
Department of Medical & Health Sciences (MHS)

Welcome to the Department of Medical & Health Sciences at American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS). Our department was established in 2018, and despite its young age, it has evolved to be among the most popular departments at the University.

Our main mission is to provide a high-quality education based on U.S. standards to prepare skilled, knowledgeable, and equipped medical professionals who can serve the region and beyond.

Our mission is greatly supported by highly-educated faculty members who earned their degrees and completed training in top schools in the U.S., U.K., and beyond. We also utilize cutting-edge laboratories to provide a rich learning environment that focuses on hands-on experience through practical training and instruction.

We currently offer a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) and have an ambitious plan to extend our offerings in the future to include more medical programs. Our curriculum has been reviewed and enriched by partners through the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC), which includes more than 30 public and private universities based in the U.S. state of Texas.

We place great emphasis on clinical training to prepare our students for life after graduation. In the MLS program, our students are expected to complete two semesters of intensive clinical training in a hospital setting and under the supervisor of experienced clinicians. These clinical rotations offer great opportunities for our senior students to be familiar with hospital settings and gain valuable experience.

Our department also invests in medical research, with an active effort to foster research and scholarship in education. Our faculty members conduct research in key areas of the medical sciences such as pathology, hematology, infectious diseases, pharmacology, genetics, molecular biology, and public health. In the past year, our faculty members have published several original articles in world class journals with high impact factors; participated in several international and national conferences; and earned a medical patent for innovative cancer treatment.

We are committed to providing outstanding medical education through integrating the three main pillars of modern medical education: teaching, clinical training, and research.

We invite you to learn more about our department and its offerings.
