Profile

Dr. Asos Qadir Mahmood is an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Medicine, where he also directs Population Health Research Education for the Tennessee Population Health Consortium. Dr. Mahmood received both his Ph.D. in Health Systems Management and Policy and his Master of Public Health from the University of Memphis School of Public Health. He also earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB, [MD equivalent]) degree from the University of Sulaimani College of Medicine. Dr. Mahmood’s research explores biopsychosocial determinants of health, healthcare disparities, and access to healthcare services among aging, low-income, and underserved populations, with a particular emphasis on chronic medical conditions. His research also evaluates evidence-based interventions and health policies aimed at improving health outcomes for patients with chronic medical conditions. His other research interests include investigating impacts of health informatics and patient-empowering tools such as tele-health and mobile health (mHealth) apps in enhancing quality of life and delivered care. Dr. Mahmood has presented his research at various scientific conferences and has successfully published in many peer-reviewed prestigious US-based and international journals. He currently serves on the editorial boards of BMC Health Services Research and DIGITAL HEALTH journals.
