Evaluation and Quality Assurance Process
AUIS maintains a comprehensive and continuous evaluation framework designed to uphold academic quality, support faculty development, and enhance student learning outcomes. The process integrates several key components, including anonymous student course evaluations, annual faculty performance reviews, curriculum and catalog oversight, systematic assessment of institutional learning goals and outcomes, and periodic academic program reviews. Through collaboration between academic departments, committees, and university leadership, AUIS ensures that teaching practices, course design, and program standards remain rigorous, transparent, and responsive to student needs.
The Teaching Quality Assurance (TQA) system (https://tqa.auis.edu.krd/login) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is an internal online platform used to monitor and evaluate faculty performance throughout the academic year. Faculty members upload a comprehensive record of their academic activities, including teaching responsibilities, published research, seminars, service contributions, and other scholarly work. These reports are then evaluated using a structured set of criteria that generates a numerical score
AUIS also conducts student course evaluations at the end of every term. The results of these student course evaluations are reviewed by both the departmental chairs/deans and the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, and are the comprehensive summaries are then returned to the faculty members who reflect on the student evaluations and make adjustments to their courses.
All AUIS faculty also participate in annual career evaluation meetings with their respective department chairs/deans. These evaluations document the faculty member’s teaching, research activities, as well as their service to the university community and their professions. All of the faculty annual evaluations are then reviewed by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
