AUIS Faculty Research Featured in International Journal

Dr. thaer

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is proud to highlight a recent research publication by Dr. Thaer Bahjat, Assistant Professor at the College of Pharmacy, Department of Medical and Health Sciences. His study, titled “Mast Cell Characterization and Density in Normal and Abnormally Invasive Placental Tissue Using Five Histochemical Stains,” was published in the International Journal of Anatomy and Research. The research investigates mast cells, important immune cells involved in tissue repair and immune regulation, and their role in placenta accreta spectrum, a serious pregnancy complication. By analyzing placental tissue using five histochemical staining techniques, the study identified Toluidine Blue as the most effective method for detecting mast cells and found significantly higher mast cell density in abnormal placental tissue. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of placental health and highlights the potential role of mast cells in diagnosing and studying placental disorders. Dr. Bahjat’s publication reflects AUIS’s ongoing commitment to advancing research, scientific discovery, and global academic impact.
