AUIS will work with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to introduce new educational methodology; promote effective and scalable teaching and learning practices; and build the capacity for effective and sustainable education reform in Iraq. AUIS and UCLA have identified the lack of effective and sustainable pre- and in- service teacher training as an obstacle to education reform, and hence seek to establish a Center for Expertise in Teaching and Learning (CETL) in Iraqi Kurdistan. CETL is designed to introduce an array of alternative pedagogical techniques and resources to secondary and postsecondary educators in Iraq, and as a result strengthen the skills and values of students at high schools and universities across Iraq. CETL will benefit significantly from the expertise, students and resources of UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, Center for International and Development Education (CIDE) and Center X.
