Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI, visited the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS), where he met with AUIS President Dr. Bilal A. Wahab as part of his farewell engagements concluding his mission in Iraq.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the role of higher education in shaping Iraq’s future, with emphasis on youth empowerment, critical thinking, and the responsibility of universities in nation-building.

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) congratulates its Founder and Board Chairman, Dr. Barham A. Salih, on his election by the United Nations General Assembly as the next United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Faculty members from the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani's  Academic Preparatory Program participated in the annual International TESOL Kurdistan conference held in December 2025 held in Erbil, Kurdistan. The conference served as a necessary platform for addressing the evolving challenges and innovations shaping English language education in an era driven by rapid technological advancement, increasing multilingualism, and complex global issues.

The President of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) attended the Asiacell ASAS Internship Graduation Ceremony 2025, held as part of Asiacell’s Training and Development initiatives. The event marked the completion of the ASAS Internship Program, a nationwide initiative designed to bridge academic learning with practical professional experience.

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) hosted a one-day training session titled “You Are Enough!” as part of its Capacity Building Program for faculty and staff.

The session was led by Mr. Salam M. Islam (AbdulSalam Madani), a renowned trainer and consultant with over two decades of experience in education, leadership, and civil society. The training focused on empowerment, professional confidence, and personal growth, encouraging participants to recognize their strengths and enhance their effectiveness in the workplace.

AUIS Academy has successfully concluded a three-week academic program aimed at strengthening students’ academic and critical-thinking skills. The program brought together 11th and 12th grade students in an engaging learning environment designed to prepare them for future academic challenges.

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) successfully held an English Public Speaking Competition in Mosul, providing students with a valuable platform to develop essential communication and presentation skills. The event aimed to encourage confidence, critical thinking, and effective self-expression in English among participating students.

The AUIS Alumni Scholarship was established as a way for alumni to directly support the next generation of AUIS students. In January 2025, the Alumni Relations Office hosted the first-ever AUIS Alumni Gala Dinner, where ticket sales and donations were dedicated to creating a scholarship fund for high-achieving students with financial need.

On December 4, 2025, the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) welcomed the Canadian Ambassador to Iraq, Christopher Boehm, to campus for a series of high-level discussions with AUIS President Dr. Bilal Wahab and representatives of the Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS).

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) successfully hosted a professional development training event titled "From Learners to Leaders: Empowering Students with AI in English Education." The workshop brought together educators from more than 30 schools across the Sulaimani region, focusing on how teachers can guide students in effectively using AI tools for language acquisition.
