APP Student Outreach

APP holds multiple programs throughout the year for prospective students to introduce them to AUIS.

FLP is an opportunity for the top percentage of newly admitted AUIS students to come for a free week of leadership and critical thinking classes. It is a chance for students that have not yet decided on the University they will attend to experience life at AUIS

The purpose of the APP Bridge Program is to give students that could not enroll in a full APP term the opportunity to enroll at AUIS and improve their English before the next term of APP begins. In the fall term, the Bridge Program is made up primarily of students who are admitted to APP’s full Spring term but want to work on their English skills in the meantime. The students in the APP Bridge Program attend class five hours a day, five days a week, for five weeks. The APP Bridge Program began in Fall 2013

The AUIS Access Program is a partnership with the United States Department of State.

AUIS has partnered with the U.S. Department of State to provide high schoolers from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in Sulaimani a chance for a better future. The English Access Microscholarship Program offers selected students classroom instruction to improve their English language and critical thinking skills while participating in service learning projects to foster community engagement and leadership development. The two-year scholarship program covers classroom instruction, books and materials, transportation to and from the AUIS campus, computer access and instruction, student success workshops, leadership training and community service projects.

Any student chosen by their instructor is required to participate in advising. The goal is to systematically reach out to struggling students and help them be more effective in their studies in APP.

Structure of Advising

  • Students are informed of the new requirement for advising if they have been chosen as at-risk by their APP Instructors.
  • Students will be granted an advisor from their level Reading & Writing courses depending upon student needs.
  • Students met with their advisors once per week in addition to any study halls, study groups, office hours, or other structured supports in order to create plans of study.
  • Advising sessions involve addressing study strategies, clarification of course objectives, and the creation of study schedules with plans of action.
