Cultural Heritage Symposium

On April 26th, 2015, the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani’s (AUIS) Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS), in collaboration with the Department of Social Sciences hosted their 1st Annual Iraqi Cultural Heritage Symposium.

The first annual symposium, Iraqi Cultural Heritage in Crisis: Strategies for the Future, convened prominent scholars, policy makers, government officials, cultural professionals, and journalists from the KRG, Iraq, and beyond to discuss the complex and pressing issues relating to cultural heritage in the region.

Cultural Heritage Management requires local, regional, national, and inter-national collaboration in order to be successful. For this reason, AUIS Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage will co-host next year's symposium with Oxford's Endangered Archaeology of the Middle East and North Africa Institute. Details to be announced soon.
