The Engineering program at AUIS is modeled after the world’s best engineering and science programs offered at top universities. With the help of a few generous donors and a strong partnership with University of Colorado at Boulder, AUIS offers one of the leading engineering programs in Iraq, which is designed to meet the American accreditation standards for engineering.
AUIS promotes and encourages a vibrant campus life, especially through sports and activities of independent student clubs and societies. The university boasts two outdoor basketball fields and a soccer field which is used for university matches as well as weekly practice sessions.
AUIS and Miami University of Ohio are the recent recipients of a grant from the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) Science program. The two universities announced the creation of a new partnership between their institutes to provide their students with exciting new curriculum options and exchange opportunities.
The donation from the Kurdistan Regional Government has enabled AUIS to offer scholarships and incentives for talented students.
In 2010, AUIS received a donation from the U.S. State Department that enabled the university to create 20 merit-based scholarships to recruit students from outside the KRG , and specifically from the central and southern parts of Iraq. Of the 20 scholarship recipients, three have graduated in 2013-2014, while five will be graduating in the fall of 2015. The remaining 12 students are now full-time undergraduates in various programs.
