AUIS Students Shine at Open Chess Tournament in Sulaimani

The Open Chess Tournament of Sulaimani’s Universities and Institutes, held at Qaiwan International University, concluded with outstanding performances from AUIS students.


Yar Bayad, an International Relations student, secured 1st place among female participants from 12 universities, demonstrating exceptional skill and strategy. Paiwand Fatah, a Medical Laboratory Science student, also made a strong impact, advancing to the finals among the male participants.

Angels of Sinjar Illuminates the Resilience of the Yazidi Community at AUIS

On Tuesday, February 25th, AUIS hosted a special screening of Angels of Sinjar in the Conference Hall—a powerful documentary that sheds light on the struggles and enduring spirit of the Yazidi community. Directed by the Oscar-nominated Polish filmmaker and cinematographer Hanna Polak, the film captures the heart-wrenching journey of Hanifa, one of its main actors. Hanifa, a young Yazidi woman who ran away from ISIS, went on a courageous journey to find her sisters and bring them home.
