The Open Chess Tournament of Sulaimani’s Universities and Institutes, held at Qaiwan International University, concluded with outstanding performances from AUIS students.

Yar Bayad, an International Relations student, secured 1st place among female participants from 12 universities, demonstrating exceptional skill and strategy. Paiwand Fatah, a Medical Laboratory Science student, also made a strong impact, advancing to the finals among the male participants.

On Tuesday, February 25th, AUIS hosted a special screening of Angels of Sinjar in the Conference Hall—a powerful documentary that sheds light on the struggles and enduring spirit of the Yazidi community. Directed by the Oscar-nominated Polish filmmaker and cinematographer Hanna Polak, the film captures the heart-wrenching journey of Hanifa, one of its main actors. Hanifa, a young Yazidi woman who ran away from ISIS, went on a courageous journey to find her sisters and bring them home.

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) and the French School Danielle Mitterrand—the French school in Sulaymaniyah—have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the transition from high school to higher education. This partnership aims to enhance college readiness, expand access to higher education, and foster community engagement.

The excitement was in the air at AUIS as students took on staff and faculty in a thrilling football match! This highly anticipated game was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of teamwork and the AUIS spirit. Uniting Through Sports

More than 40 student clubs came together for AUIS Club Day, transforming the campus into a vibrant showcase of talent, passion, and ambition. This exciting event provided a platform for students to explore diverse interests, connect with like-minded peers, and engage in extracurricular activities that shape their university experience.

On February 13, 2025, AUIS had the honor of hosting Mr. Neil Gandavda, Head of the Economic Unit at the US Consulate General in Erbil, for a day of insightful discussions and engagement with students, faculty, and alumni. The visit began with a campus tour, offering Mr. Gandavda a firsthand look at AUIS’s state-of-the-art facilities and dynamic learning environment.

Seven students from the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) recently participated in a three-day workshop in Germany, focusing on design thinking, startup building, and postgraduate opportunities. This incredible opportunity was made possible through AUIS’s partnership with Saarland University and Hashemite University, funded by the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service.

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) Medical & Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Class for Life institution, recently conducted a free Basic Life Support (BLS) training for staff and faculty members. This initiative aimed to equip participants with essential life-saving skills, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations. 

On February 6, 2025, the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) proudly hosted the Second English Public Speaking Competition, an inspiring event organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the U.S. Consulate, and the American Corner.

Sulaimani, Iraq – A distinguished delegation from the College of Medicine at Kufa University, led by Dr. Saif Jabbar Al Mayah, visited the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) to strengthen academic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration. The delegation, which included faculty members and students, was warmly received by Dr. Bilal Wahab, President of AUIS, alongside university faculty and staff.
