AUIS Hosts Professional Development Event on AI Integration in English Education

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) successfully hosted a professional development training event titled "From Learners to Leaders: Empowering Students with AI in English Education." The workshop brought together educators from more than 30 schools across the Sulaimani region, focusing on how teachers can guide students in effectively using AI tools for language acquisition. Facilitated by faculty members from AUIS's Academic Preparatory Program, the training provided hands-on approaches to integrating AI across core language competencies including speaking, grammar, reading, and listening skills. The session emphasized student agency and empowering learners to take ownership of their language development through strategic AI integration.

The event received strong support from local educational authorities, with Ms. Lezan Nawzad Mohammed from the Educational Training and Development Unit under the General Directorate of Education in Sulaimani in attendance. Ms. Mohammed has been a consistent advocate for AUIS's teacher training initiatives throughout the region. Organized under the leadership of Ms. Zimkitha Mpatheni, Director of the Academic Preparatory Program, the training represents AUIS's ongoing commitment to promoting global standards in language learning education while preparing educators and students to navigate the evolving landscape of digital language education.
