Meet the First AUIS Alumni Scholarship Recipient: Asrae Salaheddin Chak

The AUIS Alumni Scholarship was established as a way for alumni to directly support the next generation of AUIS students. In January 2025, the Alumni Relations Office hosted the first-ever AUIS Alumni Gala Dinner, where ticket sales and donations were dedicated to creating a scholarship fund for high-achieving students with financial need.
Thanks to the generosity of AUIS alumni who attended the gala and contributed through subsequent donations, the AUIS Alumni Scholarship became a reality. This scholarship reflects a growing culture of giving back—where graduates who once benefited from AUIS opportunities now help open doors for future students.
In Fall 2025, the first AUIS Alumni Scholarship was awarded to Asrae Salaheddin Chak, a first-year Law student whose story embodies the spirit of ambition, resilience, and community that AUIS stands for.
In Asrae’s Words
My name is Asrae Salaheddin Chak, and I am a first-year Law student at AUIS. For the last two years, AUIS has been a big part of my life even before enrolling. I attended University Days, Open Houses, and many campus events, and I was a finalist in the first AUIS English Public Speaking Competition and later served as the MC for the second competition. In many ways, I already felt like an AUIS student long before I officially enrolled.
I have always been a top student at school and graduated with a diploma, scoring an average above 90. Education has been my biggest passion, and AUIS was always my first choice because it represents opportunity, safety, and a place where I can grow both academically and personally. I could not imagine studying anywhere else.
Paying for an American-style education can be a challenge for many families, and without scholarship support, the finances are a burden to many parents. Juggling work responsibilities and studying just to stay enrolled could also affect focus and academic performance overall.
Receiving the AUIS Alumni Scholarship paved the way for a brighter future. It lifted a huge financial burden and allowed me to dedicate myself fully to my studies. More than that, it showed me that AUIS alumni are extending the same opportunity that advanced them in life to their community members. Their support motivates me to work harder, to use every opportunity I have here, and to become someone who can give back in the future.
As a Law student, I hope to one day serve my community by promoting justice, fairness, and the rule of law. I also hope that in the future, I will be able to stand on the other side as an AUIS alumna who supports new students, just as today’s alumni are supporting me. To all AUIS alumni who contributed to this scholarship: thank you for investing in my education and in my future. I will pay it forward!
