Academic requirements
Each BA (Bachelor's) program has entry requirements based on the eligibility scores set by the Ministry of Education. Please see the requirements listed in the table below.
>For the Iraqi students, final high school exam results are considered.
>For vocational or institute graduates, the details are in the table below. For any further questions, please contact the Admissions office to confirm the academic requirements relevant to your educational background.
>For international school graduates, after your application to AUIS, you will need to equalize your high school certificate at the KRG Directorate of Exams (Azmoonakan office).
Program requirements set by the Ministry of Education for 2024/2025 academic year are listed below (the new requirements will be listed as soon as they are available). Please note that a number of seats for certain programs, especially Pharmacy and Dental Surgery, is limited.

English language requirement
Since AUIS is an American university, all education is done in English language only. Therefore, an English language test is required of all applicants, unless they finished an international high school. The placement test is done at AUIS, free of charge. Based on the placement score, students will be either able to start undergraduate program (UG) studies at once or will need Academic Preparatory Program (APP).

International Students
For international school applicants, the admission process at AUIS is the following:
1. Checking the eligibility (see below).
2. Filling out the AUIS Admissions application online.
3. Unless exempted by AUIS, English language placement test result - AUIS, TOEFL, IELTS, etc (check English language requirements).
4. Providing the equalization document from the Ministry of Equalization. To start this process, a student will need the official letter from AUIS. Then the student will take this letter along with the original school certificate and grades to the Ministry of Equalization (Azmoonkan) in Erbil for equalization.
5. The student can sign the AUIS Enrollment contract and be given two weeks to finish the equalization and submit the original certificate.
Ministry Regulations for International (School) Students
The requirements below are the latest version of the Ministry regulations for accepting international students or graduates from international schools. These requirements were established for the 2022/23 academic year and stayed the same for the 2023/24 and 2024/25. Thus AUIS Admissions office is working with the regulations below. If new requirements are published for the 2025/26 academic year, we will update each student accordingly. AUIS Study Contracts foresee flexibility if the requirements change.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF SCHOOLS:
Students who come from an American system (e.g. Classical School of Medes and Choueifat School)
What documents should students take to Azmoonakan?
● Verified High School Transcript GPA
● Verified Diploma High School
● SAT1 and AP grades (verified by AMIDEAST)
● One photo of the student with a copy of his/her identity document
●Letter from the University
●Application Form from the University
ELIGIBILITY based on the Ministry Requirements:
1. Medical Colleges: (Pharmacy and Dentistry)
● GPA should not be less than 3
● The AP scores should not be less than 10 out of 15 in the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Math; and the passing score should not be less than 3
2. Engineering Programs: Energy, Software, Civil, Robotics, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering
● GPA should not be less than 3
● The AP scores should not be less than 6 out of 10 in two subjects of the following: Physics, Math or Chemistry; and the passing score should not be less than 3
3. Scientific Programs: IT, Medical Lab Science*, Cybersecurity
● GPA should not be less than 2
● The AP scores should not be less than 6 out of 10 in two scientific subjects and the passing score should not be less than 3
* For Medical Lab Science one of the subjects should be biology.
4. Humanities and Social Sciences Majors: Business, Human Resources, Marketing, International studies, International relations, Law, English, Translation
● GPA should not be less than 2
● SAT1 test: should not be less than 800 out of 1600 and the passing score should not be less than 400
Students who come from a British (Cambridge) System (e.g. British International Schools)
What documents should students take to Azmoonakan?
● The students should have studied not less than 12 years successfully
● Verified IGCSE certificate at least for five subjects
● Verified A Level and AS level certificate
● One photo of the student with a copy of his/her identity document
● Letter from the University
● Application Form from the University
IGCSE subjects* should be the following:
1. For Scientific majors – students should have at least five subjects from the following list: English, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT.
2. For Literary majors – students should have at least five subjects from the following list: English, Math, Science, Geography, Economy, History.
* Passing scores for IGCSE subjects should be between A-E or 4-9.
A Level and AS Level Subjects:
1. For Scientific majors – the subjects are: English, Advanced Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, IT.
2. For Literary majors – the subjects are: English, Math, Science, Geography, Economy, History.
ELIGIBILITY based on the Ministry Requirements:
1. Medical Colleges: Pharmacy and Dentistry
● 5 passing IGCSE subjects which should be scientific
● For A Level and AS Level there should be 3 subjects in total (one AS Level and two A Level). One of them should be Math or Physics, and the other two should be Biology and Chemistry. The scores for two of the subjects should be B and the other one should be C.
2. Engineering Programs: Energy, Software, Civil, Robotics, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering
● 5 passing IGCSE subjects which should be scientific
● For A Level and AS Level, there should be 2 subjects in total (one AS Level and one A Level). One subject should be Physics and one should be Math or Chemistry. The scores for both subjects should be C.
3. Scientific Programs: IT, Medical Lab Science, Cybersecurity
● 5 passing IGCSE subjects which should be scientific
● For AS Level there should be one scientific subject and one scientific subject for A Level. Both subjects should be different.
4. Humanities and Social Sciences Majors: Business, Human Resources, Marketing, International studies, International relations, Law, English, Translation
● 5 passing IGCSE subjects
● One A Level and one AS Level subjects

Transfer Students
ransfer students go through the same application process, but in addition such students need to submit an official university transcript (physical copy) or send a pdf file of the official transcripts. Students will also need to provide proof of English proficiency. Please send all details to Ms. Wala Talib, Admissions and Records Manager at [email protected].
Applicants should allow 1-3 weeks for a response to a transfer credit request.
Transferring Credits
Transfer of credits varies by program and depends on what courses a student has completed in his/her home institution. Students interested in transferring to AUIS should check AUIS’s coursework, which is detailed in the Academic Catalog. Only courses that match in credits and content will be considered for transfer.
