Fostering Leadership Through Adventure: AUIS APP Hike to Hawraman

Inspired by the American educational model, students at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) actively participate in enriching activities like hiking, intellectual games, and environmental conservation. These initiatives aim to foster leadership and build a generation of skilled, capable youth.
As part of this mission, the AUIS Academic Preparatory Program (APP) recently organized a hike to the stunning Hawraman region. The trip was designed to introduce students, particularly those from outside Sulaimani, to the area’s breathtaking landscapes and cultural richness.
"This trip allowed us to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of Kurdistan while building strong bonds with our peers," shared one participant.
By engaging in activities like the Hawraman hike, AUIS not only encourages exploration and environmental awareness but also instills teamwork and leadership skills. Such events reflect the university’s commitment to holistic education, where students grow both academically and personally.
The success of the hike has inspired participants to explore more of Kurdistan’s unique landscapes and continue building connections that extend beyond the classroom.
