On February 6, 2025, the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) proudly hosted the Second English Public Speaking Competition, an inspiring event organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the U.S. Consulate, and the American Corner. With the attendance of Kamaran Ali Hassan, Director of Kurdish Education in Kirkuk; Saman Majid Bakr, Assistant Director General of Kirkuk Education; Lezan Nawzad Mohammed, Educational Teacher Trainer; and Sarbast Karim Mohammed, Director of Training and Development Department of Sulaimani Education, this annual competition provided high school students with a valuable platform to develop their public speaking abilities, express their ideas, and engage in a spirit of healthy competition.
Dedicated to fostering leadership and communication skills among young learners, AUIS continues to champion initiatives that empower students beyond the classroom. The competition witnessed an impressive display of eloquence and confidence as participants took the stage to deliver compelling speeches on a variety of thought-provoking topics. The event served as an excellent opportunity for students to refine their public speaking skills, share their perspectives, and engage with an attentive audience.
Distinguished judges, including representatives from AUIS faculty and staff, the U.S. Consulate, and local educational leaders, evaluated the speeches based on content, delivery, and overall impact. The competition was met with great enthusiasm as students demonstrated remarkable rhetorical skills, leaving a lasting impression on both the judges and the audience.
In addition to the experience gained, top performers were awarded prestigious prizes, recognizing their hard work and dedication. The competition also reinforced the importance of fostering a culture of dialogue, self-expression, and academic excellence among high school students in the region.
As AUIS continues to nurture future leaders, events like the English Public Speaking Competition serve as a testament to the university’s commitment to education, empowerment, and community engagement. The success of this year’s event paves the way for even greater participation and impact in future editions.
