Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI, visited the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS), where he met with AUIS President Dr. Bilal A. Wahab as part of his farewell engagements concluding his mission in Iraq.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the role of higher education in shaping Iraq’s future, with emphasis on youth empowerment, critical thinking, and the responsibility of universities in nation-building.

Dr. Al Hassan stressed the importance of education that meets international standards while remaining rooted in local culture and values, highlighting AUIS as a model institution that integrates academic excellence with cultural authenticity. He commended the university’s commitment to critical thinking, quality education, and civic responsibility.

President Wahab welcomed Dr. Al Hassan and reaffirmed AUIS’s mission to foster intellectual growth, leadership development, and meaningful engagement, preparing students to contribute positively to society and the country.
