European Delegation Visits AUIS for Strategic Dialogue and Engagement
The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) was pleased to welcome two prominent European figures for a campus visit and exchange with university leadership on May 19, 2025.
Mr. Emmanouil Karagiannis, Reader in International Security at the Defence Studies Department of King's College London, and Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos, former European Union Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs & Citizenship (2014–2019) and current Member of the Hellenic Parliament, visited AUIS as part of a broader engagement with the region.
The visit included a meeting with AUIS President Dr. Bilal Wahab and a campus tour, where the guests learned more about the university’s mission, programs, and growing impact in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Discussions focused on the importance of academic institutions in promoting regional stability, fostering dialogue, and equipping the next generation of leaders with the tools to navigate complex global challenges.
Both guests highlighted AUIS’s unique role in the region and its potential to contribute to international discourse on security, migration, and development. They also expressed interest in engaging more closely with AUIS students in the future through dialogue sessions and collaborative academic initiatives.
AUIS remains committed to fostering global connections and providing its students with opportunities to learn from and engage with international thought leaders and policymakers.
