Henri J. Barkey is the Bernard L. and Bertha F. Cohen Professor of International Relations at Lehigh University. He is also Adjunct Senior Fellow for Middle East Studies at the Council of Foreign Relations. He was the Director of the Middle East Program at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington DC. From 1998-2000 he served as a member of the U.S. State Department policy planning staff working primarily on issues related to the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean and intelligence. He has written extensively on Turkey, the Middle East and issues relating to political economy.
