Iraqi Engineers Union Visits AUIS to Advance Engineering Program Accreditation
The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) welcomed an official delegation from the Iraqi Engineers Union (IEU) on Thursday, August 21, 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to secure registration and accreditation for its engineering programs.
The IEU delegation toured AUIS’s modern campus facilities, including engineering and computer laboratories, classrooms, and other academic spaces. They also met with AUIS faculty members, the Head of the Engineering Department, and senior administrators to review the University’s curriculum, facilities, and its broader mission to strengthen engineering education in Iraq.
Earlier this year, AUIS formally requested program registration and accreditation from the IEU, a step that would allow AUIS engineering graduates to become official members of the Iraqi Engineers Union and obtain union identification.
Accreditation by the IEU represents a significant milestone for AUIS, reinforcing its mission as a non-profit institution dedicated to delivering internationally recognized, high-quality education that prepares graduates to contribute to Iraq’s growth and modernization.
Dr. Bilal Ahmad Wahab, President of AUIS, expressed his appreciation for the visit:
“We are honored to host the Iraqi Engineers Union and showcase our commitment to engineering excellence. Registration and accreditation from the IEU will open greater opportunities for our students and strengthen AUIS’s role in developing Iraq’s future engineering leaders.”
The visit marks an important step toward closer collaboration between AUIS and Iraq’s engineering community, ensuring that AUIS graduates are well-prepared to meet professional standards and lead the country’s development in the years ahead.
