AUIS Moulakis Library Celebrates Prestigious Book Donation from the READ JAPAN PROJECT

The AUIS Moulakis Library proudly celebrated the arrival of a major new collection of books through the READ JAPAN PROJECT, a global initiative supported by The Nippon Foundation.
On April 24, 2025, the AUIS Moulakis Library hosted a special book donation ceremony to mark the occasion, attended by esteemed representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Iraq, including Ambassador Akira Endo, as well as members of the AUIS faculty, staff, and student body. This event underscored the importance of academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and the continuous expansion of educational resources at AUIS.
The READ JAPAN PROJECT, established by The Nippon Foundation in 2008, aims to promote a better understanding of Japan around the world by providing institutions with carefully selected English-language books on Japanese business, history, politics, law, and sociology. AUIS joins over 1,300 institutions worldwide that have benefited from this prestigious initiative.
The newly received collection includes hundreds of outstanding volumes, which will significantly enrich the library’s holdings and support AUIS students and researchers across multiple disciplines. The ceremony celebrated not only the donation itself but also the broader mission of fostering global perspectives and enhancing academic excellence within the AUIS community.
“We deeply appreciate this generous donation from the READ JAPAN PROJECT,” said Halbast Abdullah, Library Manager at AUIS. “Contributions like these play a vital role in strengthening higher education in Iraq by expanding access to diverse global knowledge and supporting the academic growth of our students and researchers.”
The successful application for the READ JAPAN PROJECT was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Moulakis Library and the VPAA team.
AUIS is proud to be part of a global network of over 1,300 institutions worldwide selected for this initiative, reflecting our commitment to fostering global understanding and academic excellence.
AUIS extends its heartfelt thanks to The Nippon Foundation and the Embassy of Japan in Iraq for their support and for helping to open new doors of knowledge, research, and cultural understanding for our academic community. The University looks forward to deepening its engagement with international partners and continuing to provide exceptional opportunities for its students and scholars.
