Angels of Sinjar Illuminates the Resilience of the Yazidi Community at AUIS
On Tuesday, February 25th, AUIS hosted a special screening of Angels of Sinjar in the Conference Hall—a powerful documentary that sheds light on the struggles and enduring spirit of the Yazidi community. Directed by the Oscar-nominated Polish filmmaker and cinematographer Hanna Polak, the film captures the heart-wrenching journey of Hanifa, one of its main actors. Hanifa, a young Yazidi woman who ran away from ISIS, went on a courageous journey to find her sisters and bring them home.
The screening captivated students and faculty alike with its portrayal of survival amid immense hardship. Following the film, Hanifa participated in an engaging Q&A session with AUIS students. She offered personal insights into her experiences and discussed the challenges depicted in the documentary, enriching the conversation about justice, identity, and resilience.
Angels of Sinjar not only provided a gripping narrative of human endurance but also sparked meaningful dialogue among attendees, reaffirming the power of storytelling in inspiring empathy and change. The event was a unique opportunity for the AUIS community to connect with a story of hope and determination, highlighting the importance of bearing witness to struggles for justice and survival.
