Position Description:
The Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department at AUIS invites applications for a position of Lecturer or Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor of Mathematics. The regular teaching load is four courses per spring and fall semester. Opportunities for compressed summer and winter teaching may be available for additional compensation. Interest in a visiting position is welcome.
The primary responsibility of a faculty member is teaching and supporting student learning inside and outside the classroom. Thus, faculty members are expected to keep current in their fields, to create syllabi for their courses that represent the current state of knowledge, to select textbooks and course materials that are appropriate to the level of the course, to use instructional methods and technologies that will engage students, to challenge students intellectually, to assess and support student progress during the course both in class and through individual appointments as may be required, and to evaluate student performance fairly and accurately at the conclusion of a course.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate exhibits the following characteristics:
- An earned Master’s or Ph.D. in Mathematics or in a field that provides the candidate with the expertise to teach courses such as College Algebra, Calculus (all levels), Differential Equations, Discrete Mathematics, Statistics, and Linear Algebra at the undergraduate level, as well as any core curriculum mathematics courses designed for the Liberal Arts.
- A distinguished record of teaching excellence in the area of appointment, and a demonstrated ability and willingness to lead students to academic, professional, and personal success.
- Evidence of the ability to generate quality research or equivalent intellectual contributions.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity obtained from living in more than one country is strongly preferred.
- North American experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with blended and distance-learning pedagogies is preferred.
The Department :
The Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department offers undergraduate courses in support of Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees offered by other departments in various fields, including Engineering, Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Informatics and Business. The department currently offers a Minor in Mathematics and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics is planned. State-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and other facilities support the curricula with experienced and student-focused faculty and with strong links to the community.
