Position Description:

The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a Mathematics Teaching Assistant / Recitation Instructor position. The successful candidate will support undergraduate mathematics instruction by teaching recitation sections, grading assessments, and working closely with course instructors to enhance student learning. Candidates with a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics are encouraged to apply. 
 

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate exhibits the following characteristics:

  • A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of undergraduate mathematics and the ability to support instruction in Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, and Calculus III.
  • Ability to teach 4–8 one-hour recitation sections per week, facilitating problem-solving sessions, answering questions, and reinforcing concepts presented during lectures.
  • Responsibility for grading quizzes and other assigned course assessments in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining clear and consistent grading standards established by the course instructor.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and students for whom English is not their native language.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate closely with course instructors, including maintaining regular communication regarding course content, assessment procedures, and student progress.
  • Willingness to contribute to departmental activities, including examination proctoring and other duties that support the academic mission of the department.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative instructional team.
  • Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, recitation instruction, or grading at the university level is highly desirable Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong organizational skills and a commitment to student-centered learning.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
