Position Description:
The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Computing and Informatics. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator and researcher to join a growing department in an academic environment that values teaching, research, and innovation. AUIS seeks candidates who are committed to high-quality undergraduate education and are enthusiastic about advancing the field of software engineering within the region.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute across four main areas:
- Teaching: Deliver undergraduate courses in software engineering and related areas, focusing on practical and industry-relevant skills. This includes preparing course materials, evaluating assignments, and supervising student projects.
- Curriculum Development: Assist in developing new software engineering courses and updating existing content to incorporate emerging technologies and project-based learning.
- Service: Participate in departmental and university committees, mentor and advise students on their academic and career paths, and contribute to department outreach.
- Research: Conduct and publish original research in software engineering or related fields, pursue grant funding, and collaborate with industry.
General Requirements:
We encourage applications from experienced educators and those new to teaching who are enthusiastic about advancing the field of software engineering.
- Education: A Master’s degree or PhD in Software Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized university.
- Expertise: Demonstrated background in core software engineering principles and related areas such as:
=> Requirements engineering
=> Software Architecture & Design (including patterns and scalability)
=> Systems and Infrastructure (including cloud, networking, and databases)
=> Human-Centered Development (UX/UI and HCI)
=> Implementation and coding mainly in Java
=> Testing and Quality Assurance - Teaching Ability: Proficiency in teaching in English is required. The ability to integrate research and industry trends into the classroom is valued.
