Position Description:

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Computing and Informatics. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator and researcher to join a growing department in an academic environment that values teaching, research, and innovation. AUIS seeks candidates who are committed to high-quality undergraduate education and are enthusiastic about advancing the field of software engineering within the region.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking an expert with a strong background in the field of software engineering. The successful candidate will assume the following general responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Deliver undergraduate courses in software engineering and related areas.
  • Emphasize practical and industry-relevant skills 
  • Prepare and evaluate course materials, assignments, and exams.
  • Supervise student projects, including capstones and independent studies. 

Curriculum Development: 

  • Develop new software engineering related courses.
  • Update course content to reflect emerging technologies and methodologies.
  • Design and integrate hands-on labs and project-based learning. 

Service:

  • Participate in departmental, university, and professional committees.
  • Represent the department in academic or industry collaborations.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and career pathways.
  • Support departmental outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Contribute to accreditation efforts.

Research: 

  • Conduct original research in software engineering or related fields and publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Secure research funding through grants.
  • Collaborate with industry and government organizations on funded research projects


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate exhibits the following characteristics:

  • Holds Master’s degree or PhD in Software Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized reputable university.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the following areas of software engineering:

    1. Core Software Engineering Principles
  • Requirements engineering
  • System design and architecture
  • Implementation and coding
  • Deployment and maintenance

    2. Software Architecture and Design
  • Design Patterns
  • Architectural Styles
  • Scalability and Performance
  • Modeling and Documentation

    4. Testing and Quality Assurance 

  • Testing Techniques

  • User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design
  • Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
     
  • Demonstrate expertise in the following areas of software engineering.
  • Experience with curriculum design, development of new courses, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • The ability to integrate cutting-edge research and industry trends into the classroom.
  • Proficiency in teaching in English is required.
