Position Description:
The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the AI and Robotics program. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator and researcher to join a growing department in an academic environment that values teaching, research, and innovation. AUIS seeks candidates who are committed to high-quality undergraduate education and are enthusiastic about advancing AI and Robotics within the region.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking an AI Expert with a strong background in machine learning, specifically in the fine-tuning of large language models (LLMs). The ideal candidate will have experience working with LLMs in an on-premise environment, ensuring data privacy and security while optimizing model performance. Key responsibilities include data preparation, model training, evaluation, and deploying models on our in-house infrastructure. The appointed faculty member will be expected to teach a wide range of courses related to AI, ML, and Robotics, with an emphasis on specialized courses such as Algorithms and Data Structures, AI Applications, Data Science and Analytics, Computer Vision, Large Language Models, and Machine Learning. In addition to teaching, the candidate will contribute to curriculum development, mentor students, and engage in scholarly research. Faculty members at AUIS are expected to participate in departmental and university service, including advising students, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to university initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a closely related field from a recognized university.
- Strong expertise in natural language processing and machine learning.
- A strong research record in relevant fields such as machine learning, AI applications, or computer vision, with a particular emphasis on large language models and data science.
- Event planning and implementations.
- Application processing.
- Proven experience in fine-tuning large language models (e.g., GPT, BERT).
- Proficiency with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience managing and deploying models in an on-premise environment.
- Familiarity with data privacy and security best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience teaching AI and Robotics courses at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a commitment to student engagement and success.
- Experience with curriculum design, development of new courses, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- The ability to integrate cutting-edge research and industry trends into the classroom.
- Proficiency in teaching in English is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry experience in AI applications, machine learning, data science, and/or robotics.
- Ability to teach Mechatronics, Measurements Laboratory (Instrumentation), Introduction to Robotics, and Robotic Manipulation and Mobility.
