Profile

Dr. Hawshan is an assistant professor at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS), where he combines his expertise in dentistry with a deep commitment to teaching and research. With a PhD in Operative and Preventive Dentistry from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Master’s degree (MSc) in Oral Biology from Queen Mary University of London and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Sulaimani/Iraq, Dr. Hawshan has laid a solid foundation in the dental sciences. 

His journey in academia has been supported by prestigious scholarships, including the Kurdistan Regional Government's Human Capacity Development Program for his Master’s degree and a DAAD-Germany grant (German Academic Exchange Service) for his PhD. These opportunities have fueled his passion for advancing knowledge in his field. 

Dr. Hawshan's research focuses on operative and preventive dentistry, particularly exploring how dental materials interact with tooth substrates and the impact of toothpastes and peptide gels on tooth sensitivity. He employs innovative 2D and 3D techniques to delve into restorative materials and their attachment to dentine and enamel, aiming to contribute meaningful insights that can enhance clinical practices. Beyond his research, Dr. Hawshan has worked as a dentist in public and private clinics. He is dedicated to sharing his knowledge with students and nurturing the next generation of dental professionals. He has published several articles in reputable journals, demonstrating his commitment to excellence and innovation in dental materials science.
