AUIS Student Wins Second Place in Scientific Innovation at Prestigious Rwanga Awards 2023

AUIS is thrilled to announce that Mohammed Safin Sabah, a software engineering student, has secured the second place in the Scientific Innovation category at the prestigious Rwanga Awards 2023. In his project, Mohammed addressed and effectively tackled a pressing global issue, food waste.

Mohammed's journey began as a dorm student, where he noticed the significant amount of food being discarded due to surplus or taste dissatisfaction. The realization struck him: How much food is wasted worldwide every day? This sparked a week-long research, leading him to conceptualize a solution to reduce food waste.

In order to meet the Rwanga Awards deadline, Mohammed collaborated with two friends, Ranj and Mustafa. Within two days, they transformed the vision into reality—a cutting-edge device that recycles food waste. Controlled by a mobile application, the device not only reduces food waste but also produces a valuable byproduct, a carbolic natural fertilizer.

This Internet of Things (IoT) project shows Mohammed's extensive background in mobile application development and robotics. Mohammed envisions a future where chemical fertilizers are replaced by natural alternatives.

Over the next five years, he aims to reduce Kurdistan's reliance on chemical fertilizers, fostering a healthier environment and providing people with natural products free from the potential health consequences associated with chemical fertilizers.
