On November 12, 2024, the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) had the distinct honor of welcoming a high-level delegation from the European Union. The visit was a significant step toward enhancing academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and student mobility between AUIS and institutions across Europe.  

The delegation, which included Lennart Deridder, Head of Operations; David Healy, Deputy Head of Delegation & Head of Political Section; Radu Eugan Butum, Head of EU Liaison Office; and Abdullah Asoss Fikrat, Secretary of European Union Liaison Office, engaged in fruitful discussions with AUIS representatives. 

Key topics of the meeting included the potential for exchange programs, particularly through Erasmus+, and partnerships with institutions in countries such as the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, and other EU member states. Both parties emphasized the value of student involvement beyond academics, highlighting how cultural exchanges foster personal growth and a deeper understanding of global diversity.  

This collaboration reflects AUIS’s ongoing commitment to expanding international opportunities for its students, equipping them with the tools and experiences necessary for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
