The AUIS Moulakis Library is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to support daily library operations. The role primarily involves circulation services, cataloging, and assisting library users to ensure a positive, accessible, and well-organized learning environment. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of library resources and enhancing user experience.
Responsibilities & duties:
- Manage patron records in the Koha Integrated Library System (ILS), including creating, updating, and removing user accounts (students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visiting scholars).
- Monitor overdue items, generate reports, send reminders, and liaise with the Finance Office to collect outstanding fines.
- Handle daily circulation tasks: check-out, check-in, and renewal of library materials.
- Maintain item types and user categories within Koha.
- Respond to user inquiries regarding library policies, hours, loan periods, and fines.
- Assist users in locating materials and provide basic reference support.
- Supervise shelving, re-shelving, and maintaining order in study and reading areas.
- Support onboarding processes by preparing devices, provisioning accounts, and orienting new users to IT policies and tools.
- Provide technical support for library equipment such as printers, computers, e-readers, calculators, etc.
- Organize physical spaces including printer stations, study areas, and desk equipment.
- Track and manage lost & found items and printer supplies.
- Supervise and coordinate with library volunteers.
- Working on inventory, preparing reports,, and checking for missing or lost library materials.
- Support events and activities, including occasional weekend participation when required.
- Manage the library’s social media platforms: respond to messages, post updates, and engage with users professionally.
- Index academic journals and check online sources for content development.
- Prepare and assist with purchasing documents
- Assist with cataloging library materials, particularly those in Kurdish and Arabic.
- Use OCLC Connexion to locate bibliographic records, edit as needed, and import them into Koha.
- Add holdings data and prepare physical materials for circulation (barcodes, spine labels, etc.).
- Repair and maintain damaged books and other resources.
- Maintain and update catalog records
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; library or information management background is a plus.
- Proficiency in English, Kurdish, and/or Arabic is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with library systems (Koha, OCLC Connexion) is desirable but not required—training will be provided.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable with using and assisting others with technology.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to occasionally support weekend library events or special programs.
Work Environment & Additional Information:
This is a front-facing, user-focused position that requires multitasking and regular interaction with students, faculty, and other library users. The role involves physical activity, such as shelving books and managing space layout.
