The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and IRIS are collaborating on an economic research initiative called the “Iraq Economic Review” between 2020 and 2028. The aim of the project is to promote robust economic policy, knowledge, and transparency in Iraq, and to shift the national policy conversation towards a long-term sustainable economic vision. Over the past five years, the IER has established itself as an independent source of rigorous, evidence-based analysis for policymakers, activists, and journalists.
The IER employs a three-level framework—local, national, and regional—to provide a comprehensive understanding of Iraq’s economic trends. This scope positions the Review as a primary resource for tracking major economic dynamics and regional integration.
To ensure broad impact, the IER’s dissemination strategy includes bi-annual publications and quarterly launch events held in Sulaimaniyah, Erbil, and Baghdad, which are also streamed online. Additionally, findings are presented annually at IRIS’s flagship policy event, the Sulaimani Forum. This high-level platform brings together officials and civil society actors, ensuring the Review’s insights gain maximum visibility and influence the national policy conversation. Through these efforts, the IER extends its reach beyond the policy community to a wider public audience.
