The Scholarship Officer is the primary contact between student scholarship recipients and the University. Working closely with Admissions and the Registrar’s office, this position aims to create a supportive environment for scholarship recipients. Offer resources and provide guidance and support throughout the scholarship period. The position reports to the Vice President, Advancement (VPUA) and other University Offices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration:
  • Collect data and maintain records (contracts, funding end dates, GPAs and credits earn on semester basis) on scholarship/sponsorships recipients for reporting and assessment.
  • Assess the performance of scholarship students once semester grades are published, and promptly apply warnings and penalties to those whose GPA falls below 2.0. Compile a roster of scholarship students placed on academic probation every semester, requiring their financial records to be revised in SONIS. Transmit this list to the AUIS Registrar’s office for input into SONIS after each term.
  • Preparing donor reports on scholarship and sponsorship students. Collecting data that includes semester GPA earned, overall GPA, and credits earned for each group of students.
  • Audit transfers to inform students and donors how many remaining courses are needed to ensure the shortest duration of study.
  • Assist the VPAA Office, Advancement department, and other University Offices in answering donor and governmental questions about scholarship recipients.
  • Coordinate with the Advancement team to create awareness of the scholarship programs among potential donors, prospective recipients and the broader community. This includes providing information for the website, social media, and external requests.
  • Assist the admissions office

    • Ensuring all scholarship opportunities are shared during recruitment cycle
    • Providing orientation and scholarship details for the newly admitted scholarship recipients
    • Prepare and administer student contracts for scholarship recipients.
    Counseling/Advising:
    • Work with scholarship recipients who have questions about the requirements and other terms of their scholarships. Especially for APP students who benefit to have this information in Kurdish or Arabic.
    • Advise struggling scholarship and sponsorship students of how best to maintain their scholarships

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Superb verbal and written communication skills in English, and Kurdish (Sorani) Arabic (strongly preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, required to arrange meetings and interact effectively with a broad spectrum of multinational constituencies including students, donors, community leaders, education representatives, University and Foundation board members, faculty and staff.
  • Three or more years of experience in American-style university teaching or administration, preferably including advancement or grant management experience.
  • Accurate recordkeeping skills and attention to detail.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, for example obtained from living in more than one country.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Commitment to the AUIS mission and an enthusiasm for a student-centered, interdisciplinary education in a liberal-arts environment that promotes critical thinking and tolerance of conflicting beliefs.

The compensation package is competitive and based on the requirements of the position and the applicant’s experience and other qualifications.
