Position Description:

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the College of Dentistry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator and researcher to join a growing department in an academic environment that values teaching, research, and innovation. AUIS seeks candidates who are committed to high-quality undergraduate education and are enthusiastic about advancing Prosthodontic Dentistry within the region.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a full time faculty expert in Prosthodontics with a strong background in: 

  • Provide comprehensive instruction in prosthodontics, Dental material and other related courses through lectures, laboratory exercises, and hands-on clinical training.
  • Prepare and manage detailed course syllabi to meet academic standards and ensure clarity in course delivery.
  • Perform administrative duties, including grading, student feedback, and participation in faculty meetings.
  • Organize and supervise laboratory and clinical activities to ensure student success and patient safety.
  • Actively contribute to the College of Dentistry’s advancement by participating in curriculum development and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Engage in other academic and administrative activities to support the College’s objectives

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a range of high quality and inclusive teaching and support learning activities
  • Assess the work and progress of students and provide them with constructive feedback.
  • Providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules.
  • creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
  • Proactively identify ways to improve performance through teaching design, delivery and by obtaining and analyzing feedback.
  • Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work and establish a base to assess the program and course learning outcomes. 
  • Meeting with students outside of class.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Develop and apply innovative approaches to improving the learning environment, teaching, assessment and feedback methods.
  • Positively engage in the professional development of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Contribute to course development and the development of new programs of study in an inclusive way.
  • Participate in teaching initiatives at a regional, national and international level.
  • Maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in all the scientific and non-scientific events related to the college and AUIS to elevate the reputation of the college.


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate exhibits the following characteristics:

  • BDS, Master’s and PhD degree in prosthodontics or a closely related field from a recognized university. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a commitment to student engagement and success.
  • Experience with curriculum design, development of new courses, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • The ability to integrate cutting-edge research and industry trends into the classroom.
  • Proficiency in teaching in English is required.
  • Evidence of the ability to generate quality research or equivalent intellectual contributions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English required.

The College :

The AUIS-College of Dentistry offers undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor’s degree in dental surgery. The curricula are supported by state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, clinics and facilities, by experienced and student-focused faculty, and by strong links with the community.
