The ISIS Occupation of Mosul: Causes and Consequences - A Roundtable Discussion with Abdulaziz Al Jarba

On September 16, 2019, IRIS hosted a roundtable discussion with Abdulaziz Al Jarba of the Al-Tahreer Association for Development entitled "The ISIS Occupation of Mosul: Causes and Consequences." The discussion included an analysis of the security and political environment in Mosul from 2003 to the present. Mr. Jarba also highlighted the tools used by ISIS to manage its resources in order to facilitate mobilization and perpetuate conflict. The discussion concluded with Mr. Jarba’s assessment of the gaps in the Iraqi state’s approach to security and development in conflict-affected areas, including Mosul.
