On June 12, 2017, IRIS fellow Alessandro Tinti gave a seminar titled "Beyond the Oil Curse: A political ecology of oil," where AUIS students were brought to learn and discuss the key issues surrounding the "oil curse" debate. Starting from the claim that high dependency to oil exports adversely affects a country’s economic performance, political regime, and civil war onset, Tinti adopted a comparative perspective, prompting the students to reflect upon similarities and differences between the Iraq and KRI and cases from sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.
