Symposium: Conflict, Environment and Health

On February 5, 2023, the Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) hosted “Research Symposium on Conflict, Environment and Health.” The purpose of the symposium was to bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers (social scientists, environmental scientists, and medical practitioners) from across Iraq and beyond to explore linkages between war, health, and the environment in Iraq. Presentations addressed three general themes:

  1. New directions in environmental science & health research and policy
  2. Emerging research on antimicrobial resistance in Iraq & implications for healthcare and health policy
  3. Existing research on environmental exposure and cancer incidence

The event was conducted as part of the Iraq Climate Dialogue.
