Dr. Sabah Yas

About

Dr. Sabah Yas is a Senior Fellow at IRIS. His research and expertise span public health management, infectious disease control, and humanitarian medical interventions, particularly in conflict-affected regions. Currently, he serves as the Medical Coordinator Support at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF-Belgium) in Iraq. Dr. Yas has also served as a Research Affiliate at the Institute for Development, Research, Advocacy and Applied Care (IDRAAC) in Beirut and was a graduate student at the American University of Beirut, where he pursued advanced studies in public health.
Previously, he was Deputy Medical Coordinator at MSF-Belgium (2022-2024) and held the position of Head of the Primary Health Care Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Health from 2015 to 2022, where he contributed significantly to health policy and service delivery across Iraq. His earlier career includes roles in tuberculosis and communicable disease management, such as Director of the Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases Hospital in Baghdad and CDC Officer for the Ranya Health Directorate.
