On Wednesday and Thursday, 23 and 24 October, two AUIS faculty attended the 14 th VESAL Conference. Dr. Lynn Rose, Professor in the Social Sciences, and Ms. Shabang Sardar, lecturer in English and Social Sciences, traveled to Erbil at the invitation of TISHK University. Dr. Lynn gave the keynote speech, “Universal Design, Education, and Community.” She emphasized the importance of collaboration between disabled and nondisabled people to eradicate academic ableism. Dr. Lynn, who teaches courses and publishes on Disability Studies, also highlighted the efforts of AUIS’ CARES Team to work toward an accessible academic environment.
