The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) is currently accepting applications from academics and researchers in Iraq to join the institute’s Iraq Economic Review (IER) Research Fellowship program.

The fellowship program, comprised of two in-person workshops and quarterly online sessions over the course of two years, will enable accepted applicants to develop their proposed research ideas and help them to engage with relevant stakeholders, policymakers and respective local communities. Accepted applicants will have the opportunity to present their proposed research ideas during in-person workshops and quarterly online sessions, receive feedback and develop their research ideas into contributions for publications with IRIS.

We will especially welcome applications with research ideas that explore the nexus of economic dynamics, performance of public institutions and governance at the local level in the provinces of Anbar, Basra, Dhi Qar, Erbil, Kirkuk, Najaf, Nineveh and Sulaymaniyah.

This fellowship program is ideally suited for applicants with relevant academic training in political science, economy, political economy, development studies and sociology. Applications from civil society activists who can demonstrate a sustained interest in advocacy related to economic issues (e.g. social inequality, labor rights, women access to work) will also be considered. Applicants from all provinces are encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants can fill below application form by 9:00 AM of June 16, 2024. Applications sent after the deadline or missing the required documents will not be considered.
