Atyaf holds a BA in English language and literature from the University of Aleppo. Her translation career started in 2009 with local theatre groups and art production companies in Damascus.
Before joining CGDS as an Arabic translator in the EU project in 2019, Atyaf worked independently as a translator and interpreter, providing language services to a range of international humanitarian NGOs, academic institutions and media organizations. Atyaf also (co-)wrote radio programs and children’s stories tackling Syria’s cultural, ethnic, religious, linguistic and geographical diversity. Parallel to her translation career in Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan; Atyaf participated as an amateur actress in several theatre projects, most of which focused on the works of Samuel Beckett.
Atyaf is interested in arts, linguistics and feminism, particularly in relation to the questions of identity, exile, integration and citizenhood.
