Dr. Twana A. Hassan, a research fellow at CGDS, participated in a comprehensive five-day program held in the Netherlands from August 28 to September 1, 2023. This program was organized by KCIL in collaboration with the Association of Defense Council in The Hague and supported by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fund through IFA. It focused on the "Mechanisms of International Criminal Justice." The participants included judges, prosecutors, advisors to the Kurdistan Parliament, university professors, and legal practitioners. Dr. Twana's notable contribution to the program focused on exploring approaches and mechanisms for prosecuting international crimes, with a particular emphasis on those committed against Yezidi women during the ISIS war. He highlighted the practical challenges and shared thoughts about effective approaches and mechanisms compatible with the Iraqi legal system.
