CGDS Director Speaks at a Conference about Legal Change

On June 11, 2022, CGDS Director Dr. Choman Hardi participated in an advisory conference titled, Discussing Legal Change and Assessing its Methods. The conference, which took place in Erbil, was organised by IKKR and funded by the Svenska Institutet and PAO. Dr. Choman's talk addressed the Role of Universities in Bringing about Legal Change. The conference was part of a larger project between Sweden and Kurdistan to strengthen international cooperation, democracy building, and equality, and it consisted of three panels. In the first panel legal experts from Sweden and Kurdistan spoke about the developments and challenges. Speakers included Rebecca Lagh, Shokhan Ahmad, Wahbia Zrar and Paiman Ezzedin. The second panel brought together speakers from the government and academic institutions, including Sarkawt Omar Ahmad (Sulaymaniyah Directorate of Combating Violence Against Women), Parwana Tofiq San (Ministry of Education), Vian Mahmud Zamdar (Ministry of Higher Education), Dr. Huda Ahmad Rashid, and Dr. Choman Hardi. The third panel focussed on the role of civil society organisations in which Jwan Rahim (Asuda Organisation), Solav Muhammad Amin (Gender Information and Research Organisation), Vian Sleman (Women’s Union of Kurdistan), and Layla Abdullah Muhamad (Kurdistan Women’s Union). Dr. Choman’s participation was part of the Gender, Justice and Security Hub, funded by the UK Research and Innovation’s Global Challenges Research Fund.
