On September 7 2022, Dr. Lynn Rose, CGDS Director of Disability Studies, served as plenary speaker at ICISPE, the International Conference on Indonesia Social and Political Enquieries. The conference was hosted via Zoom by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Diponegoro. The theme of this year’s conference was “Embracing Global Transformation: Collaborative Innovations through Social and Political Research.” Dr Lynn’s talk, “Teaching Disability Studies in the Pandemic,” highlighted the ways in which ableism isolates people with disabilities, and how the pandemic has magnified this isolation; she went on to enumerate the positive aspects resulting from the pandemic such as some principles of Universal Design.
