On Wednesday evening, 29 September, 2021, Dr. Choman, CGDS founder and director, participated in an event and highlighted the importance of poetry as a tool for resistance, helping us to feel the sadness and outrage that are necessary to fight back. The event was in celebration of Banned Books Week 2021, and featured both Dr. Choman and the Myanmarese-British poet ko ko thett. A poetry reading and conversation about the power of poetry in protest movementssupported the theme “Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us.” Topics included the role that poetry plays in protest movements, and poetry as a form of protest. The event was hosted by the Index on Censorship and the British Library.
