CGDS Names “Gender Roles in the Muslim Kurdish Community” as one of two Top Papers for 2021

Chenar Chalak Qader is an International Studies major, minoring in Law. Even though he is not taking a minor in Gender Studies, working towards gender equality and educating himself in that regard has always been one of his biggest passions. Having grown up with such principles in a Muslim community, the description for “Gender and Islam,” for which this paper was written, was enough to convince him take this course. He learned a lot from the course, which was one of his favorite classes. Because of this course, he was given the opportunity to be a panelist for the symposium on the subject of the course, which was a great success. Additionally, Mr. Chenar is currently working on a chapter on the concept of “Masculinity and Femininity” in the history of Kurdistan under the supervision of Dr. Shakir, who taught the course, as a part of his book regarding Kurdish History. “Gender and Islam” provided Mr. Chenar with many great opportunities, and he is certain that it will open many other doors as well.
