On January 26, 2021, Mr. Ramyar Ismail spoke about aspects of masculinity for the Directorate for Violence Against Women-Raparin, a governmental directorate of the Ministry of the Interior that has a partnership with UNFPA. Mr Ramyar, a CGDS Research Assistant, spoke about the importance of understanding the definitions and types of masculinity and how this understanding can shed light on comparative experiences of men and women from a gender perspective. He also described CGDS’s Masculinities project, which is in partnership with the London School of Economics, and which is funded by the UKRI Global Challenges Research. The director expressed gratitude and appreciation for this academic voluntary work, and requested additional collaboration.
Photo description: There are two photos. In one, nineteen people sit on white plastic and metal chairs in even rows on a beige carpet. On the left, three uniformed men sit to the side on a white couch. About half of the audience is in uniform; the remainder wear dark suits. Of the seven women, six wear hijab. All of the audience members direct their attention to the podium (the speaker is out of our view). On the white walls we see an ornate clock and a painting in autumn colors. In the other photo, a man with short dark hair, wearing glasses, has an impassioned expression and gestures with both arms raised, palms up. He wears a white collared shirt under a dark jacket; we see him from the waist up. Above his head to the left is a projected image, CGDS; above his head on the right is the lower left section of the logo of the Ministry of Interior.
