CGDS Welcomes Dr. Twana A. Hassan as Post-Doc Research Fellow

CGDS is pleased to announce our new colleague, Dr. Twana Hassan, who began his post-doc research fellowship with us in September 2020. Dr Twana was born in Kurdistan, and has studied and worked in five countries: Iraq, Canada, the US, the UK, and Australia. He joins our project on Masculinities, in partnership with the London School of Economics and funded by the UK Research and Innovation’s Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) to support interdisciplinary research hubs around the world working towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Twana holds a law degree from the University of Salahaddin-Erbil (BA in Law); an LL.M in Law from the University of California, Davis; an LL.M in Public International Law from the University of London, Queen Mary; and a PhD in Law from the University of Queensland. His background includes working as a lecturer, researcher, project manager, journalist, and legal advocate, and he has more than 10 years of experience in the field of human rights and law. He has worked for governments, universities, the private sector, and international NGOs. He loves to travel, and enjoys the wonders of nature in different places. He also enjoys playing soccer, and sharing time with family and friends—of course, everything with coffee, poem and music. He says, of CGDS, that the Center is an ideal working environment with friendly and talented colleagues dedicated to gender justice. The most exciting part about working with CGDS is the opportunity of building a bridge between academia, policy makers, the media, civil society, and the community for advancing women’s rights. He adds that, with a solid plan and dedication, everyone has a great chance for personal and professional development while working with CGDS. Welcome, Dr. Twana!
