On Sunday and Monday, July 21st and 22nd, the Center for Gender and Development Studies Team held a workshop on gender awareness. This event, part of the Gender Studies Summer School, funded by the CGDS European Union grant for gender education in the MENA Region, in collaboration with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, was the first of the summer workshops on gender concepts and theories for the IDPs, refugees, and host communities in Sulaimani Province. After defining basic vocabulary terms such as “binary,” “spectrum,” and LGBTQIAA, the workshop progressed to exploring theories of gender, masculinities, and oppression, as well as the mechanisms of patriarchy. Mr. Jamil Ali provided excellent translation in Arabic, English, and Kurdish. Thirty participants completed all the activities and received certificates.
