CGDS attended the workshop “Call to Action on Protection from GBV in Emergencies”

Dr. Lynn Rose, Professor in the Social Sciences, and Mr. Shko Shwan, CGDS Project Coordinator, as representatives of the Center for Gender and Development Studies at AUIS, attended the workshop “Call to Action on Protection from GBV in Emergencies,” sponsored by ECHO (European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations). After a presentation summarizing the work since the beginning of the project, in 2013, several partner organizations provided overviews of their accomplishments and comments about the way forward. The session concluded with a group discussion about some of the key issues in the transition from the emergency situation to the present, such as lack of mobility among women in the IDP and refugee camps, institutionalizing and normalizing the eradication of GBV, and reframing violence as a problem rather than part of a solution. Dr. Lynn attended the workshop in Baghdad on 17 July; Mr. Shko attended the Erbil workshop on 18 July.
